Beware of tax scams

You should know that the IRS will never send you an email concerning your tax return. They will not contact you by telephone unless you have initiated the contact by giving them permission to call you in answer to a notice or problem. The IRS will only initiate contact with you by U. S. mail. So don’t reply to any emails, open any attachment or click on any links. Don’t give out any personal information on the phone.  If you do, at best you may have an infected computer – and at worst have your identity stolen.  If you do get an email, forward it to phishing@irs.gov  before you delete it. If you are interested in finding out about the latest scams, the IRS has released the “Dirty Dozen” tax scams. You can find it at irs.gov on the identity protection page.
